Flyfishing in Stillwaters Class - Learn what to use and how to flyfish effectively in any stillwater environment

Flyfishing in Stillwaters Class NEW!
Taught by Kevin W. Erickson
Learn the best tackle to have , most effective angling techniques and how to safely and successfully flyfish in any stillwater. Our class provides a total of 10 hours of instruction .

The first session is held at River City Fly Shop and consists of a two-hour lesson Wednesday evening 6:30 to 8:30pm to prepare you for your day on the water in the next lesson.

The second lesson is the following Saturday and entails a half day from noon to dusk on the water at a local private stillwater fishery, Red Hills Lake

Since it is held on private water, no fishing license is needed. - so this is a great way to learn about stillwater flyfishing when traveling though the area or to give the sport a try yourself or as a special gift for the new angler.

In the first session at the shop, we will discuss

Tackle including rods, reels, varied fly lines to have, leaders and much more.
The basics of stillwater entomology and other food sources
Fishing strategies for both surface and subsurface presentations
Timing and what stages of the insects are important to the fish.
Flies to have and when and how to use them.

The half day at the lake will be a fun time to catch a lifetime's worth of learning as well as a good chance to hook a few fish as well. We will start out with a casting instruction and then get geared up and start practicing in a real-life situation what we covered in theory in the first lesson. We will mix both wading and float tube/pontoon boat fishing. during the day we will take breaks for time to cover a variety of topics. These include:

"Reading" the water and what water types and depth to fish.
The impact of different seasons and time of day.
Fishing techniques for stationary fishing and while moving.
Retrieval methods and speeds for different fly styles.
Setup and approach when fishing Chironomids (midges) at various depths.
How to hook, fight and land fish.
  And much, much more.
